For those who have left and couldn’t come back*

Poem about Indonesia 1965

They who had been betrayed by circumstances
And had to cope with the loss of everyday memories

Of the smells
Of the sights
Of the tastes of the loved ones

And all these years, still wished to be able to come back

Longing for the home that wasn’t there anymore
For the place that kept refusing to accept them back
Just because they made that one defining choice: seeking a chance of a lifetime

This fucked up world was never fair in the first place

*a tribute to Indonesian who had their rights to become Indonesian ripped off during 1965 political turmoil
